Singles Champion 2018 / 19 - Grant Allen (Herne Bay SMBC)

April 22, 2017

Grant was playing in his 1st singles final and was seeking to notch up his second discipline Kent title having already secured the Fours.

Grant was bowling at his normal high level as had all day; in the semi-final he met an in-form Richard Southby and despite Richard's recent run of form and bowling experience Grant held Richard to secure his place in the final.

In the final, Grant lost out the early exchanges and found himself 2-0 down after two ends; however, he found the mat, lines and pace and started to take some control putting himself 7-2 up at the half way stage. With two ends to play Grant led 10-4 meaning he just needed to hold his nerve and the title would be his. Thomas took 1 shot which wasn't enough to make a last end, Thomas declared the match and Grant won 10-5 with an end to spare.

Kent gives a massive congratulations to Grant for his 1st singles title in Kent.

Singles Runner Up 2018 / 19 - Thomas Coles (Langley SMBC)

February 23, 2023

This was Thomas's second singles final; the last time being 1994/95 season where he lost out to Tony Mulcuck.

In his semi-final Thomas met Cliff Henry from Tunbury; after a tight match Thomas secured a win that took him into the match versus Grant Allen from Herne Bay.

The final was set and Thomas had a steady start taking a 2-0 lead in the first two ends; however, after this Grant took a slow and steady lead away from Thomas; Thomas was chasing in the last third of the game needing to win the last three ends with multiple shots to stand any chance of taking the winners medal. In the end Grant held strong and Thomas conceded with one end to play. Despite bowling brilliantly all day Thomas lost by 10 shots to 5.

Thomas left the competition thinking what if, however, on the basis of his bowling in this competition he will be back!

Triples Winner 2018 / 19 - Grant Allen, Eddie Allen & Dave Mason (Herne Bay SMBC)

April 22, 2017

The new to Kent Short game but highly experienced Herne Bay team of Grant, Eddie & Dave met the old hands from Wye SMBC Michelle Fitzgerald, Mike Doorey and Tim Rycraft in the final.

In the Herne Bay's semi-final they met a strong Langley trio of Jenny Eldridge, Rob Berry and Richard Southby. Both teams playing well this was going to be a game that would be deiced by some moments of magic. The Herne Bay team took the early exchanges and led by 3-1 at the half way stage, moving into the last end it was 7-7, Herne Bay held their nerve and secured a 4 on the last end to secure their place in the final. Their sole intention to god one better than last year and win the trophy!

This matched them against the old hands of Michelle Fitzgerald, Michael Doorey & Tim Rycraft from Wye SMBC.  Mason's took the first two ends and secured a 4-0 lead; however, as you would from Rycraft's triple they dug in and nibbled away and started to track back their score; after 8 ends it was down to an 8-7 advantage to Herne Bay. Playing the last end Herne Bay held a 2 shot advantage, pushing the Wye team to chase the head they secured a 2 and won by 13-9.

Herne Bay win the title! Massive well done and congratulations to them.

Triples Runner Up 2018 / 19 - Michelle Fitzgerald, Michael Doorey & Tim Rycraft (Wye & Langley SMBC)

April 22, 2017

It had been a few years since the Rycraft triple had made the final; and as such they were gunning to win it this season taking some credible wins en-route; in fact it was 2012/13 when they last appeared.

In their semi-final they met some of Kents historically finest bowlers now playing for Tunbury & Langley; Phil Ramsden, Richard Stagg and Jody Frampton.  Early ends were tight with the Wye trip taking a decent lead at the half way stage securing a 11-4 lead. With two ends to play Wye held a 13-6 lead and baring disaster in the last 2 ends a place in the final. In the end they secured a 13-9 victory over this very strong triple. The place was set for a winner takes all match versus Herne Bay.

The first few ends didn't go to the Wye script as they found themselves chasing, initially 4-0 down after 2 ends and then 8-5 down after 6 ends. Playing the last end Wye needed two shots for a draw; unfortunately for them Herne Bay held their nerve and forced Wye into chasing the jack...Herne Bay held a 2 and secured the victory. Wye lost by 13-9.

Unlucky to Wye! No doubt they will be competing again next season!

Fours Champion 2018 / 19 - Linda Wynn, Nicky Tresadern, Richard Stagg & Gary Allard (Tunbury SMBC)

April 22, 2017

This was Allard' second semi-final in the last two seasons; last year they lost out to Herne Bay. This year they were more determined than before to go all the way.

In his semi-final Allard met the rink skipped by Ian Bridger from Hamstreet. Their determination showed from the outset. After 3 ends Allard's rink led 5-0 and after 5 ends they had consolidated this lead to 8-1. In the end this scoreline allowed Allard and his team mates to hold the shots as they took a 11 - 3 win after 8 ends.

The final was set as they would play previous winners from Tunstall skipped by Faulkner. This was to be a different game as the Faulkner quartet took a good lead at the halfway stage leading 6-1 after 4 ends. This seemed to galvanise Allard and his team mates as they secured two three's in a row to level the score 7-7 with a final end to play. Everything was at stake as Allard and his team mates held their collective nerves taking a single shot to win and take the fours cup with an 8-7 victory.

Congratulations to Linda Wynn, Richard Stagg, Nicky Tresadern and Gary Allard all from Tunbury.

Fours Runner Up 2018 / 19 - Val Matthews, Martin Matthews, Sue Smith & Neil Faulkner (Tunbury & Tunstall SMBC)

April 22, 2017

It had been a few seasons since Faulkner had a good run in the fours. In fact it he had won it back in 2014.

Before they could try to grab the cup the draw had them against a very experienced quartet from the Woodpeckers skipped by Jim Davey. On their route Jim had beaten last seasons winners and last seasons runners up. If Faulkner and his team were to get to the final they would need to bowl well. The game was tight all the way, half way it was 4-4 with one end to play Faulkner led 7-5, after a tense last end Davey could only secure a single shot. Faulkner was through with a 7-6 victory.

They now prepared themselves to play Gary Allard and his Tunbury team. Everything was running to plan as the game started, Faulkner led his team to 6-1 lead after 4 ends. The 5th and 6th ends were not good and no doubt will  be in their minds for a long time as they dropped two 3's in a row. This meant that after 7 ends the score was 7-7. It was winner takes all on the last end. Despite an excellent fight that vital shot eluded Faulkner and his team as they dropped a single shot to lose 8-7 to the Allard team.

Congratulations goes to Linda Wynn, Richard Stagg, Nicky Tresadern and Gary Allard all from Tunbury and a huge commiseration to Val and Martin Matthews, Sue Smith and Neil Faulkner for an excellent game and competition.
