Comment by our Squad Manager with regards selection, picking the teams and the Squad Management team:

"I am aware that the process of selection does cause a lot of upset and respect that most players wish to play at the highest level possible. I have always strived to promote the game within Kent, the players within Kent and the County side of Kent. I will always try to do the best for the team and the players and pride myself on talking to each and every person within the squad.

I have played at the very highest level, having won an individual National Title, been part of the 'famous' Kent Premier side that was so dominant winning 7 Inter County Championships and as some icing on the cake have been lucky enough to play within the England Squad. I have tasted failure on a few occasions when I didn't make the cut so understand the effect it can have and I totally feel the heart ache it causes.

I always remember that Kent is the most decorated County in the Inter County Championship having won 7 Premier Cups and 7 A team Cups. No other County has shown that depth. Our B side has an enviable record that many other counties would love to hold more often than not going through the season losing only 1 or 2 matches.

As far as our selection is concerned it is based on current ranking, experience, historical form and gut instinct from the County Management Team.

We have to not only pick form players, but also build teams within a larger team and that can be quite a task with so many ego's all in one space. It is not easy with players not wishing to play with certain individuals, certain players will only commit to certain teams or places within teams and of course personal lives and problems that interrupt the flow of the season.

I try to take in to account that we all play for nothing, and lose a lot of our own spare time for the sport. I rely on my team of Assistant Managers and Captains and really appreciate their time, support and council, it is assuring to know like me they have 'Kent' in their hearts whilst knowing that they will always try to do the right thing for Kent when I am not there"
